View ProjectOff grid system, usually called stand-alone power system (SAPS) or remote area power supply (RAPS), is specially used to provide electric power for locations where the electricity is not available. The system generates the electricity by one or more of the following methods:
- PV system using solar panels
- Wind turbine
- Diesel or biofuel generator
- Others (didn’t touch)
- But mainly power generated by sunshine or wind are more popular at present.
A battery bank is needed to store the DC energy from PV modules or wind turbine. Power from the battery will be direct current with low voltage that can be used for lighting as well as for DC appliances. An inverter is required to convert DC to AC for alternating current appliances.
To build a stand-alone power system, we need know the loads power, working time, location to configure per parts. For wind and solar hybrid system, we should consider wind turbine power prior to solar power usually.
